The President of India has presented RuPay card to the Prime Minister of Mauritius Kumar Jagannath during her visit to Mauritius. RuPay card is India’s first of its kind domestic card payment network, while Visa or MasterCard are international system cards.

The processing fee on RuPay cards is greatly reduced as in-house processing is used for local transactions. Visa or MasterCard are significantly more expensive than RuPay cards because the processing for them takes place abroad.

RuPay cards are managed locally, transactions are completed faster with RuPay cards compared to VISA cards or MasterCard.

Indian banks are not required to pay enrollment fee or quarterly fee for RuPay card. Whereas banks have to pay initiation fee and quarterly fee for Visa card or Mastercard.

Visa or MasterCard is an American firm, so when we use their card, the data goes to their servers for processing and verification, which speeds up the processing. RuPay card processing is instant as it is used for data processing and verification exclusively in India.

RuPay cards are offered only at the local level. This is in contrast to Visa or MasterCard, already a well-known card associated with consumers with the ability to make withdrawals and transactions anywhere in the world.

RuPay cards are more secure than global cards. Thus data is transferred only to the National Gateway. There may be a risk of data theft when using Visa debit cards or MasterCard as customer data is managed at a global level.

RuPay Debit Card is used for fund withdrawal from ATM, purchases at point of sale, reversal, adding money and balance enquiry. RuPay Card is designed for customers in Government Scheme Card, RuPay Classic, Platinum and select variants.

The RuPay card is equipped with international acceptance, domestic and international airport lounge access, free personal accidental death and permanent total disability insurance coverage, various merchant offers, various cashback schemes, health and other benefits.
